Shiklah | Comics, Character & Cosplay

We first get to see Shiklah who was created by writers Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, along with artist Reilly Brown in the comic series Deadpool: The Gauntlet. I’ve already been into Deadpool comics partly due to my good friend’s Juan Carlos recommendations but also having an interest in X-Force.

Shiklah particularly caught my attention, she’s a queen, a succubus, and a force of nature who brings gothic elegance and fierce power into the Marvel Universe. Her origin is steeped in myth! Shiklah comes from a royal family that ruled the monster underworld long before humans rose to dominance. When Deadpool is hired to deliver a mysterious package for Dracula, he discovers that the “package” is Shiklah herself, sealed away for centuries.
What makes Shiklah so compelling is her regal presence but also her shapeshifting abilities to turn into a monstrous form.

In The Gauntlet, Shiklah has an initial betrothal to Dracula, however, she and Wade fall for each other. They later married which was celebrated in Deadpool: The Wedding of Deadpool – it was one of the wildest events in Marvel comics, attended by heroes, monsters, and everything in between. It was a union that showed a softer, more vulnerable side of Deadpool, while also highlighting Shiklah’s complexity as a character. I quite enjoyed them being a couple but in true Marvel fashion, their marriage wasn’t destined to last. Shiklah eventually grew frustrated with Deadpool’s unpredictable lifestyle and returned to her roots, marrying Dracula instead. Yet her time with Wade remains iconic. Their relationship was proof that even the Merc with a Mouth could find love in the most unexpected places, and it gave fans a glimpse of Deadpool’s heart beneath all the jokes and madness.

Shiklah is awesome because she embodies the perfect gothic horror and it’s evident from other posts on this site that I love all things gothic! She’s powerful, stylish, and unapologetically herself and I just had to cosplay her. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to take my outfit to a Comic Con but nonetheless it was fun to make. A special thank you to my best friend Andy who created the fabric print. Below images: outfit testing, horns, fabric and jewellery gems.
