Pirlo 30 Yards Out | My World Cup 2014 Blog

The best World Cup I’ve witnessed!
Many people mention that 2002 was one of the best but I barely watched that due to school with the matches happening reallyyyy early in the morning.

But in 2014, as I graduated from university and had plenty of times on my hands, I thought I challenge myself in analysing the matches throughout the tournament

Why the name? Well! Andrea Pirlo, the Italian midfield maestro, was renowned for his exceptional passing range and accuracy, including his ability to score from long distances, particularly from free kicks. While the specific “30 yards out” mention in the query isn’t tied to a single, universally famous moment, it’s often cited in discussions about his long-range shooting prowess. He often scored from such distances, and it was a trademark of his game.

Here are my top memorable moments of the World Cup 2014:

  1. Miroslav Klose, one of my all time favourite poacher player tied with Ronaldo (Brazil) as the highest top scorer with 16 goals. I was so happy! I still remember Klose’s hat trick over Saudi Arabia and the multiple of somersaults he did as goal celebrations. His team then went onto winning the World Cup 2014, a perfect retirement gift.

2. Chile had an incredible tournament, one of my favourite teams!

3. Tim Cahill’s volley

4. Ochoa vs Brazil – Goals often make headlines, but Brazil vs. Mexico was one of the most entertaining and memorable 0-0 scorelines that I remember! Mexico had their own chances, but it was the continued heroics of their goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa, who really kept the score blank. He had 4 incredible saves to ensure a clean sheet

5. Costa Rica went far! – Costa Rica were the vast majority’s choice for finishing bottom of Group D, but they improbably beat previous winners Uruguay and Italy and drew against England, ending top of the group.

6. Shaqiri’s hat-trick

7. The World’s introduction to James Rodriguez
