Bigjet TV | Storm Eunice

The day that BigJet TV went viral during the live streaming of landings at Heathrow Airport. Most of the nation tuned in and the stream had more viewings than the Winter Olympics! I was quite distracted by it while WFH but the family and I tend to watch the streams almost daily! My dad is a huge aviation enthusiast and it kind of rubbed off on me.

The main guy himself – Jerry Dyer! What an absolute character he is. His passion for aviation really shines through and he is thoroughly engaging with his viewers. You catch a bit of Avi lingo too. The commentary is legendary and I enjoy quite a bit of his other content, particularly last week’s where he visited Boeing Flight Aviation Center in Seattle.

We saw planes choosing to abandon landing due to the extreme wind shears from Storm Eunice. A lot of bumpy stacking and landing were a nervous watch. I was rooting for the Qatar A380 (pictured) to land on it’s first attempt but the gusts just really kicked in. The same aircraft model landed afterwards by Fly Emirates. On the second go around for Qatar, the gusts yet again picked up, despite there being a somewhat slower wind speed before and alas, it failed it’s second go round. By the third attempt – which is the last before having to divert to somewhere in Europe, it successfully landed it!

Qatar also landed their Boeing 777 so skillfully – There is actually a footage from the cockpit, look at the yoke control!

Without a doubt, you can really admire the skills and professionalisms of all the pilots that had to battle against difficult weather conditions. A massive applaud from me and the nation!
